Packing Guide |
General Packing Tips
Packing is an intricate part to the success of your move. Packing must be done
in an organized manner to ensure that all items are packed properly and that
you will be able to unpack them neatly on the other end. Do not make your move
more stressful than it has to be by just tossing items in a box. You want to
enjoy the moving experience.
In order to achieve success, our associates at ForMove have put together some
general packing tips. We hope these will help you prepare for your upcoming
move. Some tips may be common sense, but remember that with everything that
will be going on in the weeks prior to your move, you will find it helpful to
have a guide.
General Packing Tips
-
Obtain quality materials. You want to make sure that your items get to their
destination without any bumps or bruises. The best way to ensure a safe move is
to use materials that protect your possessions. Such materials as packing
paper, peanuts, bubble wrap, and packing tape will give your items the
protection they need for the bumpy ride.
-
Beware of wrapping items in newspaper. Although this may be a cheaper
alternative, it can leave unwanted marks and stains on your prized possessions.
General Packing Tips
-
Pack one room at a time. Being organized is the key to successful pack. By
going from one room to the next and packing items, you are positioning yourself
for an efficient unpacking at your new home. Obtain some permanent markers and
possibly labels in order to keep track of the items that are into the boxes.
Mark "Fragile" where necessary.
-
Make a list of everything that is packed for your records in order to make sure
they end up on the other side.
General Packing Tips
-
Try to put heavier items in smaller boxes and light bulky items in larger
boxes. Do not over or under pack boxes. If you over pack, the box is likely to
split and you will have things protruding from the top. As a result of over
packing, the mover will find it difficult to stack your packed boxes neatly on
the truck. Under packing a box is also detrimental because the top of the box
will often become dented or crushed.
-
Use newer, sturdier boxes. Boxes that have been used often may not keep your
belongings as safe as a newer box. Used grocery store boxes will work fine for
sturdy items, but make sure you pack breakables in something more substantial.
General Packing Tips
-
Pack a suitcase or box of items that you will need your first day in your new
home.
-
Check for any special moving requirements with regards to electronic equipment.
Also, make sure that major appliances and electronics are properly serviced
before they are packed or moved.
